Razack's Kitchen Halal Hong Kong Noodles and Rice

This coffeeshop is located in an old shophouse and the owners were originally from Hong Kong.  My friend and I were not hungry as we had lunch about a couple of hours ago.  We were talking about food as usual and I remembered this eatery as it was featured in a television "makan" programme.  My friend googled and we found it.

We did not order a lot so we decided to share a Mee Hongkong (my fave, btw) and just a couple of dim sum dishes.  The noodles were good, not too salty, rather tasty and the consistency of the sauce was just right.  I am sure fans of Mee Hongkong will agree that it is now difficult to find a good one nowadays.

Next, we had the Crispy Beancurd Skin stuff with chicken and prawns.  It was piping hot and very good.  Excellent as a snack.

The other one we ordered was the shark's fin dumpling.  It was not as tasty as I expected it to be.   

I would definitely come back again to try out other dishes.  The elderly couple who owns this modest eatery are also very friendly.  They are apparently known for their Bak Chang as well.  Perhaps I will try that next time.

The Ship

This casual restaurant is always full.  While killing time before going to see a movie in Nex, we popped into The Ship for something to eat. 

I ordered the set lunch that came with soup, main course and ice cream.  The soup of the day was carrot soup.  To be honest, I did not have any expectation.  Surprisingly, it was not bad at all.  It was seasoned well and the consistency was neither too thick nor too runny.  I thought it was pretty decent.

My friend ordered the fish noodles.  I had a taste and thought it was good.  The broth was tasty without being overpowering.  The fish was served on the side and it was crispy.  I will order this the next time.

My sirloin steak came with fries, carrots, corn with mushroom sauce.  I asked for medium and it was just right.  The steak was quite good too.

The Ship is a casual steakhouse.  They have two outlets.  The other is in Shaw Centre.  On the whole, I enjoyed my meal (but then again, it could be the company :)) and I will return if I am looking for somewhere casual to have a meal...

Astons Katong

I was looking for something simple and quick one lunchtime and decided to try Astons in Katong as I was around the area.

This is a fuss free, simple, family type steak restaurant. Nothing fancy and no frills. My friend and I decided to order the sirloin with mushroom sauce and the prime rib eye. Each steak came with 2 side dishes that we could pick from the menu. I picked the onion rings and baked potato while my friend ordered the coleslaw and fries.

The steak was a reasonable portion and the dish was simple in presentation. Both the steak doneness was just right but felt it was not seasoned enough. So, I decided to slather butter on mine :) The quality of the meat was ok, it was not tough or chewy and it was moist. The side dishes portions were decent and although not fancy, it tasted acceptable too.

Astons is more of a family restaurant and has many outlets throughout Singapore. I noticed there were quite a number of teenagers having lunch with friends after school as well. On the whole, I think the prices are reasonable and the staff were helpful and efficient. It is not really a place you would like to bring your date but more suitable for you to bring your kids for a casual meal...

We went to the outlet in Raffles City after a friend recommended the place. He told me that the Sukiyaki was excellent. So, I decided to try it out.

Luckily, I made a reservation. It was full when I got there and there were people waiting for their tables even at 8.45pm!

Of course, I ordered the Sukiyaki Nabe and it was really good. The beef cubes is a must! It is yummy and it has this smoky after taste :P... The Sushi Platter Grandeur was nice too. The Hot Pot Unagi was slightly unusual as the rice was cooked with mushroom broth (I think). It took about 25 mins to cook on the table. I expected it to be tastier but personally I think it's just ok... Oh! The ice lemon tea was refreshing and we think it is home made... or should I say, restaurant made... On the whole, I think it is a great casual dining experience for families and friends at reasonable prices. Just make sure you call for a reservation...
